From his sunny disposition and permanent grin you would never guess what this young man has gone through. At merely 16 years of age, Andrés Capous had to learn how to live a life of an adult. Fate would have it that both his parents would contract severe diseases while Andrés was dealing with vicissitudes of the teenage years.

Unfortunately his father had to be relocated to the US to receive federal assistance and his mom did not survive her illness. Aided by a meager governmental pension Andrés was relieved that he was going to be able to finish his high school education. He achieved this goal with flying colors, despite all the drama that he was dealing with at that time.

At that point Andrés set his mind to attend a US college to be able to be near his father. He searched on the internet for information on how to apply to foreign colleges while living in Costa Rica, and he found epl. He came to us last year and after going through all his story, and given the fact that at that point he had already became 18 years old and was no longer eligible for governmental assistance, we decided to take him as a pro bono student.

Luckily Andrés is a US citizen, and thus is eligible for governmental loans and scholarships. After many months of gruelling work, we are ecstatic to report that Lawrence University has awarded Andrés “the most generous financial aid plan I have ever seen” to cite one of Lawrence’s admissions officers. He will be traveling to Wisconsin next August to start be premed education. Join us in celebrating this wonderful story of hope!
